Saran Gurdev Singh Bal

Saran is the founder of the Lotus Group. His determination, willpower and hard work have developed the business from ‘one man, one truck’ in the early 70’s to the multi-faceted transportation giant that is Lotus Terminals today.

Transportation has always been in the blood of the Bal Family. Saran’s father was deployed in the Second World War for the British Indian Army in the transport division and then continued on in this field after returning.

Before coming to Canada, Saran was a university-level cricketer. After emigrating to Canada, he started to work in transportation-related fields. He eventually bought his own truck and this evolved into him establishing his own business. Saran realized that there was a need in the market for a smaller carrier with expertise usually only held by larger, more corporately restricted companies.

As with other fledgling companies, there were many day-to-day and longer-term challenges. However, overcoming these challenges helped the company grow and expand in a robust way. Through numerous purchases, expansions and other business transactions, The Lotus Group has expanded into a multi-pronged transportation leader. As he learned from his father’s military background, ‘With determination, I will be triumphant’ – he has instilled this passion and confidence in the Lotus Terminals Family.
