Road to Excellence: Binny Saini – The Watchful Eye of Logistics
Prab Bal2025-03-11T09:56:17-08:00In the fast-moving world of logistics, where timing is everything, having a trusted expert tracking every shipment can mean the difference between smooth deliveries and costly delays. At Lotus Terminals, that expert is Binny Saini, our Drayage Mobilization Associate—though most simply know him as the “Track & Trace Guy.”
Binny is more than just a logistics professional; he’s the steady hand keeping a close eye on our shipments, ensuring they move seamlessly from origin to destination. His work not only keeps our customers informed but also helps them avoid costly charges like demurrage and detention. And he does all this while working remotely from Gurgaon, Haryana, India—proving that precision and efficiency know no borders.
A Journey into Logistics

With a master’s degree in marketing and human resources, Binny’s path into logistics wasn’t exactly planned—it was discovered. Starting as a Business Associate at a transportation firm based in Mississauga ON, he spent five years mastering the fundamentals of the industry, learning how to optimize lead times and improve efficiencies. His introduction to Canadian logistics sparked a deep interest, and when the opportunity to join Lotus Terminals arose, he seized it.
Guided by the advice of a senior colleague, Binny stepped into the Track & Trace role at Lotus Terminals, eager to explore a new challenge in logistics. Little did he know he would soon become an essential part of our operations.
A Day in the Life of the Track & Trace Guy
Binny’s role as a Drayage Mobilization Associate is all about precision, problem-solving, and proactive communication. His typical day involves juggling multiple tasks to ensure shipments stay on schedule and customers remain informed.
Here’s a breakdown of a typical day for Binny:
Morning:
- Starts the day by reviewing overnight updates and shipment statuses.
- Prioritizes urgent tasks and addresses any unexpected delays or issues.
- Communicates with carriers, truckers, and terminal contacts to confirm availability and scheduling.
Midday:
- Focuses on route planning, coordinating pickups and drop-offs, and ensuring drivers have the necessary information.
- Engages in customer service, providing detailed updates on shipment locations and estimated delivery times.
- Works on documentation management, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and up to date.
Afternoon & Evening:
- Monitors deliveries, ensuring they stay on schedule and troubleshooting any last-minute issues.
- Checks for potential demurrage or detention risks, proactively working to mitigate extra costs.
- Updates customers on the final status of their shipments before wrapping up for the day.
Binny’s favorite part? Tracking down containers, ensuring they move efficiently, and preventing costly delays. He takes great pride in helping Lotus customers avoid demurrage and detention fees, which can quickly add up to thousands of dollars.
One particular instance stands out for him. In December 2022, a port strike left 30 containers stranded without a return location. Facing a potential $64,000 detention fee, Binny’s tracking and follow-ups with the steamship line led to the entire charge being waived—a massive win for both Lotus and our customers.
Why Lotus?

When asked what keeps him at Lotus, Binny’s answer is simple yet powerful:
“Because the owners of Lotus Terminals believed in me and invested in me. I am in this company because I believe Lotus is a very professional organization where the employees are collaborative, high performers, and help each other when the time comes. There is a lot to learn here, and I also hope that I can help Lotus continue to succeed and grow.”
At Lotus Terminals, Binny has found not just a workplace but a team that values collaboration, trust, and continuous learning. It’s this culture that motivates him every day to go above and beyond for our customers.
Remote Work, Local Impact
Working remotely from India has its unique advantages. Binny enjoys the flexibility and improved work-life balance it offers. An avid cyclist, he has used his extra time to maintain a disciplined morning routine—so much so that he once shed 17 kgs (37 lbs) in just six months by biking every morning! Today, he covers 25 kilometers in just 14 minutes. 🚴♂️
Of course, working across time zones presents occasional challenges, but Binny takes it all in stride. His efficiency and commitment ensure that distance is never an obstacle to great service.

The Power of Relationships in Logistics
Beyond technology and tracking systems, strong industry relationships are at the heart of successful logistics. Binny has cultivated an extensive network of carriers and vendors, built on clear communication, mutual trust, and reliability. His approach? Never overpromise, always honor commitments, and seek win-win solutions.

He’s also stepped up to new challenges outside his comfort zone, and I’m excited to see him take on an even bigger role in 2025.
